Spider-Man Lizard

09/30/2009

Spider man lizardSometimes art imitates life in ways the artists never even considered.  When legendary comics artist and creator Steve Ditko dreamed up the red and blue costume for Spider-Man, he had no idea that there was an amazing lizard that sports the same color pattern.

Well, the males do at least.  The lizard is called the Mwanza flat headed agama and is native to sub-Saharan Africa.  The females are a well-camouflaged brown and tan, but the guys have a brilliant blue and red coloration, which is a sign of their vigor and helps them attract mates.

All I can think of when I see this species is that it looks like a kid wearing underoos!
