Twitter: Reuniting Lost Dogs With Owners
07/06/2012
Dublin, Ireland -- When Deirdre Anglin discovered that her dog, Patches, was missing, she did what any frantic owner would do. She alerted friends, family, and neighbors of her missing canine and hoped for the best. Little did she know that Patches was only a tweet away.

Meanwhile, Patches, a cheeky Jack Russell, found himself boarding a train headed towards Dublin. Irish Rail, a train service company in Ireland, found the dog and put out a "Lost dog" tweet with a photo of the furry stowaway to their 18,000 followers. The tweet received more that 500 retweets in 30 minutes and three hours later eventually made its way to Anglin. After discovering her dog in Irish Rail's tweet, Anglin responded back, confirming that it was indeed her missing pooch Patches.

Both Anglin and Irish Rail documented the reunion between owner and pet with a series of tweets and photos of the return trip and car journey home.
Needless to day, Patches had a lot of explaining to do!

Thanks for the great story. Although I have mixed feeling about how social media is being used, this is an example of its power and usefulness for good!

Smell is keener in dogs than in humans.
