Kung-Fu Pandas

It was not your typical Monday. 108 Tai-Chi performers donned panda costumes and hit Trafalgar Square in London in honor of Panda Awareness Week. The week pays tributes to the efforts of Chengdu Panda Base in China which has been working hard at breeding pandas and conserving their numbers.

There have been countless efforts to preserve pandas in the wild. Pandas have a low birth-rate and the numbers have been dwindling due to habitat destruction.

The Chengdu Panda Base initially started with six pandas at the facility, but successful breeding programs has resulted in 108 pandas that currently reside at the Chengdu facility and over 400 pandas in captivity worldwide.
